Public consultation

New multi-storey car park for Beck Hill, Bridlington

Indicative Ground Floor layout plan showing how the site could be developed, including vehicle access from Beck Hill and exit onto Hilderthorpe Road

Our Proposals

The proposals include:

  • A high-quality and modern-designed new 431 public space car park for Bridlington, set over three levels. Generous 2.5 metres wide parking bays will be provided. An undercroft area will provide a further 16 private commercial parking spaces
  • 25 dedicated accessible spaces for people with additional mobility requirements
  • Eight motorcycle bays
  • Electric Vehicle charging points, with the capacity to provide more in future
  • Generous landscaping will be provided around the outside of the car park
  • An improved and landscaped new access through Sawmill Yard, providing a direct route to the town centre retail area.

Design

The car park has been designed by award-winning Yorkshire-based architects CJCT Studios. The proposed design has been developed over many months, and aims to set a high standard of building quality, appropriate for the Conservation Area setting.

The series of vertical twisted fins create a wave motion, acknowledging the coastal setting of the site. At lower levels of the building, perforated panels are used to enable natural light into the building and to assist views into the car park.

It has a state-of-the art traffic circulation system known as a VCM (vertical circulation module) which enables highly efficient access through the facility to spaces, access and egress.

The car park will be naturally ventilated and have appropriate levels of lighting and CCTV to provide security at all times of the day.
